A variety of reasons – economic, social and geographical as well as historical – have made Malappuram one of the most backward regions in Kerala, especially in the field of education.
It has been the considered view of all concerned that the development of the region could be achieved only through imparting quality education to the growing generation. Hence the need for setting up world class academic institutions in this area has been felt for long.
In order to realise this long-cherished dream, Malabar Educational and Charitable Trust; Malappuram, was formed in 2002, comprising a number of distinguished personalities from all walks of life.
The Trust aims at moulding a generation gifted with the modern scientific and technical education and at the same time strengthened with the essential moral vision. Such a generation should also acquire the desired ability to face all challenges of their times.
By the grace of God Almighty, the Trust has succeeded in possessing a vast area of beautiful scenic land which is quite ideal for the all-round development of the students.
The Trust has named this site Vidya Nagar (Knowledge City), which is endowed with permanent stores of pure water and roads on all sides. It is only 3 1/2 Km from the town, 28 Km from Tirur Railway Station and 20 Km from Calicut International Airport.
The Trust has already started there a school, appropriately named Vidyanagar Public School. The Trust strives to develop this institution into a full fledged residential Higher Secondary School maintaining a cosmopolitan atmosphere. Efforts are being made to provide it with all facilities like separate hostels for boys and girls, staff quarters, indoor and outdoor stadiums, swimming pool, a guest house and a primary health centre, besides facilities for vegetable cultivation and dairy farming.
